Vice Pro Air Golf Ball Review: Distance and feel for those with slow swing speeds

Vice Golf has carved a niche for itself in the golf ball market, offering high-quality, direct-to-consumer products at competitive prices. Their latest addition, the Vice Pro Air, is designed to address the needs of golfers with slower swing speeds who still want decent touch and feel around the greens. Having tested this ball extensively, I was eager to see how it performs under real playing conditions.

NCG SUMMARY

First thing to say is that for those players who produce a sub 90mph ball speed and want that bit of spin around the greens then this is a great option. Most of us club golfers are always looking for ways to squeeze some extra distance out of our driver and long irons. This will help those slower swinging golfers do just that.

The Vice Pro Air golf balls are also a fun looking balls that will spice up your golf equipment nicely. I did find that these often promoted a slower ball speeds from other Vice golf ball models. I certainly think there is a a place for this golf ball and plenty of golfers could benefit from it.

Vice Pro Air Golf Ball Review: First Impressions

I tested the Vice Pro Air with the drip pattern. It does, however, come in six other colour designs so if that is too bold for your preference there is a standard white option available. The drip colour was something I personally liked, however. I think golf balls can be a bit monotonous at times when it comes to their looks and these Vice Pro Air golf balls certainly stand out.

A standout feature is its alignment aid, consistent across all Vice golf balls, helping golfers line up putts more effectively.

NCG Verdict

This golf ball is designed for those golfers with a slow to mid swing speed delivering strong distances but retaining good control. This is helped by the fact Vice has developed it to be a really low compression ball, with a compression of just 75.

Although it is still equipped with a cast urethane cover they have also engineered this to be softer than the Vice Pro. You can really feel this off the putter face on the greens. The urethane cover has also been crafted to be the thinnest possible for maximum control and to enhance the spin rate for short game purposes.

When testing wedge shots, the Vice Pro Air delivered solid spin numbers, although slightly lower than the standard Vice Pro models. Spin rates hovered just under 7,000 RPM, which is a bit lower than expected but still decent.

The launch angle was consistent, and the urethane cover provided good greenside control.  A steeper height obviously helps to stop the ball quicker on the greens.

When testing the Vice Pro Air with a 7-iron and the driver it became obvious that this wasn’t the best suited golf ball to my game. The Vice Pro Air offers moderate launch and spin characteristics with irons.

Carry distances were decent but not exceptional, reinforcing that this ball is designed for players prioritising control rather than pure distance. Peak height was slightly lower than other Vice Pro balls, meaning golfers may need to adjust their shot strategy accordingly. 

The performance with the driver is where the Vice Pro Air showed its true identity as a distance-optimized ball for slower swing speeds. Compared to other Vice Pro balls, I experienced lower ball speed. I saw a reduction of 157 mph from 160–161 mph with other Vice balls.

Also, the spin was extremely low at 2100rpm, which helped to maximise distance. The carry distance was also optimised at 272 yards with a total of 294 yards, demonstrating the ball’s efficiency for players who need extra yardage off the tee.

Final Verdict

The Vice Pro Air is a great addition to Vice Golf’s line up, offering a strong blend of distance, soft feel, and moderate greenside spin. While it may not be the best choice for golfers with higher swing speeds, it is a fantastic option for those looking to improve distance while maintaining control around the greens. 

Although it wasn’t the best fit for my game, it clearly fills an important gap in the market. For players with sub-90 mph swing speeds, this could be the perfect choice.
