NCG SUMMARY
The Srixon Z-Star Diamond is a premium three-piece golf ball built for players who demand spin, control, and a responsive feel, particularly when playing into the greens. Offers strong short-game performance and softer feedback than its predecessor. While it doesn’t fly the furthest, especially off the driver, it excels in shot-making precision. A standout option then for mid-to-low handicappers who value feel and control above all else.
PROS
- Tour-level stopping power
- Noticeably softer feel than previous generation
- Excellent putter feedback
CONS
- Requires moderate-to-fast swing speed to get the best performance
Srixon 2025 Z-Star Diamond Golf Ball Review: First Impressions
The Z-Star Diamond is a three-piece, tour-level ball that features some notable upgrades over its predecessor. Srixon has reengineered the core, making it softer and enhancing the feel, particularly around the greens. The older version was often bit harsh around the greens, but that issue seems to have been well addressed in this model.

Another standout is the thicker urethane cover, enhanced with Srixon’s “Spin Skin with SeRM”. This is a proprietary coating that promotes increased friction at impact. This allows grooves, especially on wedges, to grab more aggressively, leading to greater spin generation.
NCG Verdict
I think the biggest leap forward is undoubtedly in greenside control. The feel was softer than its predecessor, which was a welcome change. When I tested it with a wedge, spin rates clocked in at a whopping 7,600 rpm with a low launch of 27.7°, which were ideal characteristics for stopping power and finesse shots.

On the putting green, I thought the feedback was equally positive. The ball felt softer and more responsive than expected, without sacrificing consistency. This kind of balance is ideal for confident lag putting and touch shots.
With hitting my 7-iron, the Z-Star Diamond was very promising and showed exceptional spin rates around 6,700 rpm, offering tour-level control into greens. However, that came at the expense of distance. My recorded ball speeds of 116 mph, resulting in a carry of 159 yards and a total of 167 yards were some of the shortest numbers I have recorded during recent golf ball tests.
Although, this performance trade-off will suit players who prioritise approach shot control over sheer length. Again, high spin players or those seeking to flight the ball with precision will find these characteristics a plus.

Off the tee, the ball maintained reasonable ball speeds at 160 mph, but spin crept up to 2,800 rpm, which is a tad high for a maximised carry yardage. The result? A carry of 271 yards and a total distance of 287 yards.

It was clear during testing that this ball is best suited to players with decent clubhead speed, who can compress the ball efficiently and unlock its full potential. Slower swingers might find it slightly underpowered in the long game.
Final Verdict
Overall, the Srixon 2025 Z-Star Diamond is a high-spinning and control driven golf ball best that offers tour-level performance. It rewards those who prioritise feel, control, and approach consistency, but won’t be the go-to choice for those looking to squeeze out maximum distance.
If you’re a strong iron player looking for extra bite into greens, and you’ve got the speed to match, this could be a game-changing fit.
