What’s new? How much does it cost? And, what are the performance gains? Max McVittie brings you the lowdown on the new Callaway Quantum Fairway Wood and Hybrids.
Callaway has been a leading light in the field of fairway woods for a number of years now. They have been the most used brand on the PGA Tour a number of times of the last several years.
The performance pillars that Callaway focus on in claiming that top spot are consistent launch, impact location and perfect gapping. This is the same for the new Quantum offerings.
Callaway made a conscious decision to include the same technologies in both the fairway woods and the hybrids for effective performance gains in both.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, Callaway has created a clearly structured range that covers everything from maximum forgiveness and lightweight speed to tour-inspired control and workability.
Here’s a look at what makes them tick…
Callaway Quantum Fairway Wood or Hybrids: The Technology
Both the fairway woods and hybrid models use a number of key technologies to enhance the launch, ball speed and consistency of each club.
First of all, they all utilise what Callaway calls their Speed Wave 2.0 technology. For the fairway woods this means they have positioned up to 40 grams of tungsten low and forward in the club head.
This weight placement helps to increase the ball speed while promoting a consistent playable launch. Effectively, this is an updated Speed Wave design from previous generations and helps to increase face flex.
Energy transfer is improved because of this. The brand believe this is particularly evident on strikes from lower off the club face.
Elsewhere, Callaway has included its next generation AI-optimised face in all of their metal woods. Its inclusion has been done to help deliver consistent performance across the entire face.
AI modelling has been used to fine tune different sections of the club face to optimise speed, spin, launch and consistency. Golfers can then access more predictable distances and ball flights.
Additionally, Callaway has introduced a new sole design. Its inclusion is thought to help reduce turf interaction and allows the golf club to move through the ground more efficiently.

in practice, a reshaped heel section improves stability through impact and helps the face return to square more consistently. This is said to benefit both distance control and directional accuracy from a variety of lies.
