PXG have made strides when it comes to their drivers and fairway woods, now they are looking to do the same with their wedges. But do they perform?
When it comes to wedge design, PXG has always aimed to deliver premium quality and performance. This new wedge from PXG continues that tradition, offering golfers a blend of cutting-edge technology, sleek aesthetics, and a load of remarkable performance benefits. But, does it truly live up to the hype? We put it through its paces in our PXG Sugar Daddy III wedge review.
The PXG Sugar Daddy III wedge is the epitome of precision engineering and premium craftsmanship. Its CNC milled grooves, triple-forged 8620 carbon steel, and Precision Weighting Technology make it a standout performer in both spin and control. Despite its slightly premium price tag, I still believe the wedge is a great option. It delivers remarkable consistency and shot-making capabilities across various lies and conditions. However, its limited grind and bounce options may leave some players desiring more customization. I think the Sugar Daddy III is well worth the investment for serious short-game enthusiasts.
PXG Sugar Daddy III Wedge Review: First Impressions
Straight out of the box, the PXG Sugar Daddy III commands attention. Available in both black and chrome finishes, the wedge boasts a modern, tech-laden design typical of PXG. The back of the clubhead is equipped with visible Precision Weighting Technology, which allows players to tweak the weight distribution to perfectly match their swing profile. This isn’t a feature that is commonly found in other wedge designs.
Behind the ball, I think the Sugar Daddy III has a refined, sleek look. The leading edge is straight and confidence-inspiring, with just the right amount of offset to appeal to golfers who appreciate a clean, classic appearance. PXG’s decision to incorporate CNC milling ensures that every groove is cut to absolute precision, enhancing both control and spin. Unlike traditional cast wedges, the triple-forged 8620 soft carbon steel construction gives it a softer feel while maintaining groove integrity over time.
NCG Verdict
Performance is where I found the PXG Sugar Daddy III truly shines. The CNC milling process PXG employs is not just for aesthetics, it also significantly impacts shot consistency. Whether playing delicate 50-60 yard pitch shots or blasting out of bunkers, the wedge delivers predictable spin rates and exceptional stopping power. Over multiple rounds, I found that greenside control was great. Even on firm greens, the ball grabbed and checked up beautifully, making my life a whole lot easier out on the golf course.
The wedge is offered in three distinct grind options, the BP Grind, S Grind, and C Grind. Each is designed for different turf conditions and swing types. However, during testing I found myself wishing for more bounce and grind variations to truly match the likes of Titleist or Ping’s wedge offerings.

That said, the full-face grooves enhanced my ability to be able to open the clubface confidently during lob and bunker shots. As a result I could generate plenty of spin and control even on off-centre strikes.
Additional tech in the wedge includes PXG’s Precision Weighting Technology. The removable weight at the back of the club allows for custom fitting, dialing in swing weight and feel for each individual golfer. It’s a fitting option that not many manufacturers offer, and it sets the Sugar Daddy III apart from its competitors.
Additionally, the triple forging process used in its manufacturing results in a tighter grain structure for the carbon steel, extending the lifespan of the grooves and providing that soft, buttery feel that golfers crave.
Final Verdict
Overall, I believe that there’s no question that the PXG Sugar Daddy III wedge is a premium product. If you prioritize spin control, customisation, and premium feel over cost, then the Sugar Daddy III is a wedge that could easily elevate your short game. However, its lack of grind and bounce options may be a sticking point for those looking for maximum versatility.
That said, PXG’s fitting process ensures that what you do get is optimally suited to your game. For golfers who appreciate precision engineering and a touch of luxury in their equipment, the PXG Sugar Daddy III wedge is certainly worth the investment.
