Wow, if you’re looking for a large headed iron that will fill you with confidence look no further.
The Quantum Max OS irons are the larger version of the Quantum Max game improvers. The larger sole and wider top line sit great behind the ball.
In terms of data they certainly performed – as well as being really easy to hit. These are great for any golfer starting out or for higher handicappers looking for a little more support with their irons.

Picking these up for the first time I can only describe these as being a chunky iron. They’re fab – great for players starting out or higher handicappers looking for that confidence inspiring shaping.
Callaway has used a wider sole on the Quantum Max OS, which is part of their Progressive Tri-Sole design. This means a more consistent sole across the set as well as more efficient speed retention even on miss strikes.
I tested the Callaway Quantum Max irons both out on the course and at an indoor studio using a GC Quad to gather data.
Starting with a pitching wedge, this comes with a standard loft of 42°. The data table below shows my findings for both the Quantum Max irons at the top and then the Quantum Max OS at the bottom.
The Quantum Max OS didn’t produce as much ball speed as the standard Max PW. This meant carry distance was an average of 3 yards less. As you would expect the super game improvement irons averaged a higher launch, with a little more spin going into the greens.
Moving onto 7 iron, the larger head shaping became more obvious behind the ball. The thicker topline sat nicely behind the ball. In terms of data, carry was a good distance. Ball speed was again down compared to the Max and launch was slightly higher again.
To compare, the table below shows the 7 iron performance of the Quantum Max.
The feel of these irons off the face was really nice. Callaway has used Urethane Microspheres to enhance the sound and feeling but absorbing unwanted vibrations.

Overall, these irons are great for beginner golfers or high handicappers who are looking for a larger head profile than inspire confidence at address. I very much enjoyed the forgiveness on off centre strikes, exactly what is needed for golfers who aren’t always going to hit the sweet spot.
