Callaway has a strong reputation when it comes to their wedges. The 2026 Opus SP+ is a further development on their most recent and popular, Opus SP wedges. Whilst they might not look drastically different there has been a lot of internal tech changes, so how do they perform? Nicola Slater put them to the test to find out in her full Callaway Opus SP+ wedge review.

Callaway is back for 2026 with an updated version of their popular Opus wedges – the Opus SP+.
These look great and they are hard to fault. The refined tour inspired shaping sits great behind the ball. The face is a work of art, so much detail with the etching between the grooves to improve spin and consistency.
Performance wise, they do as you’d expect. They put up a great performance, both in terms of data and out on the course – whether that’s in the sand or off the turf.

First Impressions
Straight out the the box, wow this is a nice looking wedge! There isn’t a massive difference between last years model and the new SP+ but what’s to change? It looks great.
I like the retro style ‘Callaway’ wording down the grip, it’s something a little different.
I haven’t actually had the chance to test last year’s Opus wedges but looking at these I’m excited to see what they’re all about.
NCG Verdict
I managed to get out on the course to test the Callaway Opus SP+ wedges. It was a dry, sunny day – a rare occasion in the UK.
I was playing at Leatherhead Golf Club and it was one of the first times this year I’d gotten to hit off grass rather than a fairway mat. It was really nice to see the spin these wedges produced around the greens. Some of the bunker shots I hit, had plenty of spin on them.
Callaway has a new Gen 2.0 face. You can see the groove pattern is really well thought out. There is a new 17° groove angle with tighter pitch spacing. In short this means that there will be more groove edge contact, so more consistency of spin across all lies. This is paired with deeper cross-hatch laser patterns – designed to enhance friction and stopping power on all types of approach shots. You can see a close up on this in the image below.

The data
In terms of data, I then took these wedges to an indoor simulator to see how they performed. I used a brand new ProV1x as that’s my typical ball of choice and used a GC Quad launch monitor.
Starting with a 58°, as per the table below you can see my current Ping wedge and below it the Callaway. I was trying to hit a 50 yard shot and was happy with the current data – with the Ping. The Callaway Opus SP+, did not fail to perform. The Callaway averaged 7108RPM which I was pretty happy with and exceed my current set up.
The numbers were incredibly consistent and I very much enjoyed how the ball felt coming off the face. I terms of shaping I think that the Callaway Opus sits really nice and looks very appealing behind the ball.
Moving onto 54°, I was trying to hit it around 75 yards. Again, I compared the Ping (my current wedge) with the Opus SP+. Again, the data was very consistent. Spin rates were around 100RPM higher with the Callaway.
Callaway has added in lots of new tech with this Opus model. There is a new Spin Pocketâ„¢ Construction+ Tungsten, meaning, that shaping has been altered to a tour-preferred shaping. This combined with 13 grams more of tungsten weighting – helps to raise the COG. This means there’s more spin and precision than before. Â
The data – in a nutshell
58° – 7108 rpm vs 7042 rpm with my current Ping wedge
54° – 8337 rpm vs 8212 rpm with my current Ping wedge
In simple terms, the spin is up.
Final Verdict
Overall, I really did enjoy using these wedges both out on the course and indoors. The only downside I’ve found with these wedges is the price. They’ve given a solid performance but that comes with a premium price tag.
