MacGregor Mactec Golf Trolley: First Impressions
Having recently tested the Motocaddy Cube which is at the premium end of push trolleys, I was looking forward to seeing what you could get for £100 less.
Out of the box, the Mactec push trolley was fairly straightforward to assemble. When it came to putting the trolley up for use it was pretty straight forward with the whole thing nearly enough unfolding in one go. The front wheel folds up so unfolding this was pretty simple with a small red button that releases this.
As push trolleys come its folded size was fairly small and would comfortably fit in most car boots and if necessary you could remove the side wheels.
I was also quite impressed that this trolley came with an umbrella holder as well as built-in drinks and scorecard holders.

Out on the course, I was quite impressed with how stable this trolley was. I tested this at the hilly Hickleton golf club and with not many flat fairways the Mactec trolley had its work cut out. With this in mind, the brake got used quite a lot and this was very easy to use. When pressing it on there wasn’t often any audio feedback whether it was on but it stayed very well, even on some of the steeper slopes.
I used the MacGregor cart bag on the trolley and it stayed on very well. The fastenings of the trolley were very secure and I liked how they met in the middle rather than just going from one side to the other. These straps are also adjustable meaning that it works well with any size bag.
I found the actual handling of the trolley as it was fairly light. The handle height can also be adjusted which is great and makes it comfortable for each player. Speaking of comfort, the handle has a foam cover that is very spongey.

The Mactec trolley has a handy drinks holder on the frame. It wasn’t an overly tight fit with my 500ml metal bottle but it never fell out which was good enough for me. The trolley also featured a scorecard holder and an umbrella holder that can be easily unscrewed if necessary. Alongside this, there is a small netted area that would hold a couple of balls but I wouldn’t trust anything of much value in there are it’s not very deep or secure.
Final thoughts
Overall, I really think that you can’t knock on this trolley for the money. For something that is available for under £100, it’s a no-frills push trolley that does what it says on the tin.
