We take a look at the best golf irons 2019 and give the lowdown on whether these are the sets that could take your game to the next level this season.

Best golf irons 2019: Wilson D7

Wilson say that the D7 irons will give you power when you need it and precision when you want it.

That’s all well and good but how are they going to deliver on that promise?

Well, the Wilson D7 still has the company’s ‘power hole’ technology which featured on the C300 and D300 models. However, this time it’s more progressive meaning more power holes in the longer irons and fewer in the shorter ones.

The Wilson power holes help to add extra ball speed which allows the face to flex more.

There’s also an ultra thin face and even lower CG than with the D300 which is very important considering the lofts on these irons.

Best golf irons 2019: Cobra F9 Speedback

These irons have tried to incorporate a lot of tech and  much of Cobra’s work here was getting the iron to look right while containing all of this game-enhancing technology.

More mass has been added low and wide compared to a traditional iron and up to 33 grams of tungsten has been added to the heel and toe of the 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-irons.

The variable thickness face is three grams lighter than previous and features pockets in the upper heel and toe that help increase the sweet spot.

There’s also a forged insert within a deep undercut sole design and an all new 1.2mm internal speed channel that absorbs and returns more energy to the ball for faster ball speeds and increased launch angle.

A three-piece multi-material medallion behind the face improves sound and feel by damping vibrations at impact.

These irons also feature CNC milled face and grooves for more accurate lofts and tighter tolerances on face roughness and groove shaping.

The long irons, mid irons and wedges are each designed with different groove shapes to deliver specific performance characteristics.

Shorter hosel lengths in the long irons position the CG lower to promote higher launch, while progressively taller hosel lengths in the short irons and wedges raise the CG progressively to promote a lower, more controlled ball flight.

The F9 Speedback irons are available in variable or One Length and feature the Arccos Cobra Connect system built in to the grips.

Best golf irons 2019 – Ping G410

Ping say they have improved the stability of these irons by adding weight into the toe and the hosel.

They say this increases the heel to toe MOI (resistance to twisting) by 8% compared to G400.

Golfers can expect a little bit more ball speed too thanks to an even more flexible face thanks to their Cor-eye technology.

They say  the G410 has the highest face deflection they’ve ever created in a cavity-back iron.

Ping have also improved the cavity badge to create a better sound and feel.

Aluminum and santoprene elastomer materials combine to dampen vibrations.

Just to clear up the technical aspects of the improved aesthetics the blade length is 3% smaller and there’s 10% less offset.

Best golf irons 2019: Cobra Forged Tec

The wedges and irons, which are available in variable and One Length, also feature Cobra Connect technology in the grips for tracking scores and stats.

The King Black Wedges and Forged Tec Black irons feature a Dimonized Black Metal (DBM) finish which results in a premium black satin look that lasts longer than any other black finish.

The Forged Tec Black irons promise better feel, distance and workability than the previous Forged Tec models.

An all-new Forged 4140 Stainless Steel face is thinner and stronger to increase ball speed right across the face.

The Technology Enhanced Cavity (TEC) has a carbon fiber medallion which dampens vibrations to provide a softer, yet more solid feel during impact.

There’s also a hollow construction King Utility Black iron which promises faster ball speed and a higher trajectory.

Best golf irons 2019: TaylorMade M5 and M6

The irons feature the technology from the M3 and M4 with things like an ultra-thin face, speed pocket, fluted hosel.

But TaylorMade have added something completely new called a Speed Bridge which features in both models.

They say this bridge which runs down the cavity from the topline to the sole of the club adds stability. It supports the topline and upper face area at the exact location that vibrates at impact.

The bridge has allowed them to make the speed pocket even more flexible for faster ball speed across the face.

So the overall end result is a better sound and feel with added distance.

TaylorMade say they have strived to push the performance to give players the maximum distance and forgiveness that they can offer.

The new Speed Bridge allows them to just that and while improving the sound and feel, the distance has never been better in the M5 and M6 irons.

Best golf irons 2019: Mizuno JPX919

The difference between the JPX900 and JPX919 irons is very minimal. Mizuno have concentrated on making fine tweaks and refining the model to make it better than ever.

The JPX919 Tour is slightly more compact than the last model bu they have  made it more stable.

They have incorporated the same high density grain flow forging process as in the MP-18 line which improves the sound and feel.

With the JPX919 Forged we’ve again got a cavity design and the use of boron-infused steel for more ball speed.

The weight has been removed from the face, allowing for a lower, deeper centre of gravity, making it easier to launch the mid and long irons.

The Hot Metal model promises to launch the ball high and fast but still offers a great amount of feel.

It now offers a steeper transition into a more compact scoring irons and wedges.

The wedges are engineered from a softer steel with precision-milled grooves and faces for improved spin and control.

Best golf irons 2019 – Callaway Apex 19

Callaway say both Apex models are ‘players distance irons’ with premium craftsmanship and amazing sound and feel.

The soft feel comes from a forged 1025 mild carbon steel body but there’s also the urethane microsphere tech which was first seen in the Rogue irons.

This is the first time Callaway have rolled out this tech – which incorporates more than one million tiny air pockets that absorb unwanted vibration.

The Callaway 360 Face Cup design – which we’ve seen in their game-improvement models – promotes high ball speeds.

There’s also a tungsten-infused, multi-material construction which allowed Callaway to precisely locate the position of the CG in each iron while maintaining the flexibility of the face.

Best golf irons 2019: TaylorMade P760

The shorter P760 irons are more like compact, players, forged blades.

Then from the 3-7 iron the irons have a hollow construction and are injected with TaylorMade’s Speedfoam technology.

best golf irons 2019

This gives the irons more forgiveness and ball speed to help maintain the right gaps as you move up into the longer irons.

TaylorMade say they set out to design a tour-level competition iron that combined all the elements that are most desirable for better golfers.

The result is a complete players set, designed to inspire confidence whether the player is attacking flags from short range or getting the ball to stick from long range.
