First Impressions
A cold weather garment with no sleeves? You heard it here first. It’s a bold move from Farah, so I was really excited to test this piece of apparel out on the course.
When I picked it up, the first thing I noticed was how lightweight it was. Slipping this top on wouldn’t be difficult despite the composition of 49% cotton and 51% polyester.
I expected the soft waffle texture panel on the front chest to offer some sort of extra cold weather protection that the rest of the top wouldn’t offer. It’s nice from an aesthetics point of view but what’s the point of looking nice and not providing some sort of tangible benefit?
I was planning on wearing this with a base layer and polo shirt at the very least. It’s December, so this is still an optimistic outfit choice at this time of the year!
It felt more like a tank top than a midlayer after inspecting it. But how does it perform as a cold weather garment?
On-Course testing
Midlayers are made for layering, and that’s what this piece is great for.
First and foremost, let’s address the elephant in the room: the sleeves. Or lack of, should I say.
You arms should always be covered during the winter. They’re the most exposed part of your body after your face, so do them a favour and look after them.
The sleeveless function wasn’t as big an issue as I’d expected. It’s quite easy to remedy that by just adding layers underneath yourself.

There are four colours to choose from, and I got my hands on the teal version. It went really well with the Farah Hoxie Polo Shirt, which is one of my new favourite polos. Yellow and blue complement each other so well, don’t they?
I’d say this midlayer has more of a traditional feel than any I’ve reviewed previously. The sleeveless feature is clearly a driver in this area, and usually I prefer a more modern look when it comes to my golf attire.
When it comes to performance, I was really impressed actually. It’s lightweight like I mentioned, but this is where the lack of sleeves actually help you out.
It’s official: it’s far easier to swing in a top that has no sleeves!
The 19th hole
It’s 90% a golf top and 10% an option for individuals who prefer to wear traditional clothing off the course. I’m not in that 10%, but I can say this piece of apparel is an all-year round item of clothing.
It’d be great for summer, when the sun tends to peak out from behind the clouds every now and again. It’s really easy to slide off and slot in your golf bag.
But if you’re a winter golfer, make sure you pair this up with several layers. I can recommend a polo shirt and base layer at the very least.
