ECCO BIOM H5 golf shoe review: Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The ECCO Biom H5 is an incredibly resilient shoe suited to the golfer who plays a lot and wants to be able to concentrate on their game in the knowledge they can trust their footwear.

PROS

  • The durability – ECCO shoes always last well in my experience but these are next-level in that regard
  • The shoes really wrap around the contours of your feet, which just don’t move inside the shoe

CONS

  • The visuals are probably quite a lot for some more traditional golfers to get used to

ECCO Biom H5 leather golf shoe review: First Impressions

I have been lucky enough to wear pairs of ECCO Bioms from the beginning so these are shoes I am immediately familiar with. I invariably find Bioms luxuriously comfortable and they are shoes that really last.

Another way of putting it would be that I am comfortable with these ECCO Biom H5s – and that is one of several USPs that they offer.

As soon as you slip a pair on, they feel like they were made for your feet. The seam-knit sock gives a snug feel and, for me, the shoe feels like it goes wherever my feet go. There is no slippage.

ECCO Biom H5 leather golf shoe review: NCG Verdict

I think the ECCO Biom H5s are absolutely perfect for the golfer who plays lots of golf and wants a shoe they can rely on and leave to get on with its job.

Because of the style of the design, a scuff mark almost adds to the aesthetics of the shoe. It feels like they made to be played in. You really don’t need to do any more than dry them off and give them the occasional wipe. Apart from that, just slip them back on again in the locker room and off you go.

I love how low-maintenance they are and I actually thought they looked better after a couple of rounds than they did straight out of the box and glowing.

For those golfers who are (still!) not accustomed to wearing spikeless shoes, I can reassure you that the ECCO sole is extremely effective in my experience. There are few slippier surfaces than a close-cut links tee in the early-morning dew and I can assure that I experienced precisely no slippage in that exact situation.

I think they look great, too, but really for me it is about how they feel when I am wearing them. I feel close to the ground and engaged in my golf and I am in no rush whatsoever to take them off after 18 holes.

I wouldn’t describe them as the kind of shoe, like the ECCO M Golf Street 720, that you would necessarily wear into the bar afterwards or to pop into the shop on your way home, but equally I can easily leave them on post-golf and not really think about it just based on the comfort levels.

They are also a very light shoe, which probably adds to the comfort levels.

To me, a great golf shoe is one that I can trust and don’t really have to think about from the moment I tie the laces to returning to the clubhouse. The ECCO Biom H5s are exactly that so it’s a big thumbs-up from me.

I tested the version with laces – there is also a Boa version too. No doubt the fit is even more assured with Boa but I can honestly say that I didn’t feel my feet were slipping about at all in the traditional version, which is also £20 cheaper.
