PXG have been trending in the driver category over the last few years, growing in popularity with club golfers and on tour. This year is set to be their biggest yet with the launch of the brand-new Black Ops range.
The range is already in the bag of Major Champion Celine Boutier and has helped Eric Cole lock up PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. So what’s new?
PXG Black Ops Drivers
The aim of this driver was to make sure golfers didn’t have to give up distance to achieve forgiveness. To achieve this, PXG has worked with new technologies and materials in the research and development process.
Distance gains have been made by using a proprietary high-strength titanium alloy face material called AMF. This stands for Advanced Material Face and generates more ball speed.
This has a variable thickness design that helps deliver consistent and efficient energy transfer across the club face. It has a non-uniform bulge and roll face design. Robotic polishing strategically adjusts the horizontal and vertical curvatures across the face. This drives up forgiveness when you don’t quite catch it out of the middle.
Elsewhere in the club head, a new high-strength composite in the crown and sole has helped with more optimal weight distribution to increase the MOI and push the centre of gravity lower and further back, which helps with launch angle and spin rate.
The Black Ops Driver head comes with three sole weights that are interchangeable. At default, there is one heavier 12.5-gram weight and two lighter 2.5-gram weights. These are interchangeable to create different spin and shot shape biases.
Additional weights are available in 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, and 20-gram options, so every player can easily fine-tune the overall head weight and shot bias. Adjustable weighting can also increase the combined MOI to over 10,000 grams – cm^2.

PXG Black Ops Driver
This model is geared towards a wide range of players and aims to offer a high launch, low-spin option that delivers fast ball speed and exceptional forgiveness.
The Tour-1 driver has a smaller, tour-inspired head with a taller face and curved crown to create a more aggressive look at address. This model aims to provide maximum distance and a more penetrating ball flight. This model is aimed at better players looking for maximum ball speed and extreme low spin performance.
Black Ops Fairway Woods and Hybrids
The new fairways and hybrids share lots of technologies to maximise distance and deliver a tight dispersion off the tee or from the fairway.
They both have a high-strength stainless steel face, which is much thinner than that of their predecessors, making it more flexible for faster ball speeds.
A squared face design shifts the perimeter skirt more vertical. This increases the surface area and boosts forgiveness in the clubhead.
The crown is made entirely from high-grade carbon fibre, which is lightweight and saves mass, which can be redistributed to the perimeter of the club head for optimal CG and more forgiveness.
PXG’s precision weighting technology allows each player to fine-tune performance and create their preferred spin and shot shape bias.
