Reliable, playable and perfect for anyone looking to get their spin rates down

Driver test results: Ping G30 LS Tec video review

First impressions: There was quite a long gap between the launch of the Ping G30 and the G30 LS Tec so it was always going to be interesting to compare the two side by side once the latter arrived on the scene.

It has the similar no-nonsense look about the design and also looks incredibly easy to hit with the low and deep centre of gravity offering plenty of confidence at address.

Despite the minimal design, I think the sole has a really cool, futuristic look about it. The brushed finish on the crown was less appealing to my eye.

What they say: As the name suggests the G30 LS Tec is aimed at giving those with faster than average swing speeds a lower-spinning option. It produces up to 400rpm less spin than the regular G30.

It shares features of the G30, including turbulator technology and a light, thin face material.

The crown turbulators reduce aerodynamic drag to help increase clubhead speed and ball velocity for gaining distance.

NCG verdict: The low and deep centre of gravity fills you with so much confidence at address – it feels very hard to miss.

And the low-spin technology really does it’s job – it was easily the lowest spinning driver on test for me which added to it’s overall forgiveness.

As long as anything on test for me and it was only edged by the Titleist 915 D2 for me due to it have a slightly dull sound off the face. If you’re not bothered about the sound then this is as good as anything out there.
