Callaway Opus SP+ Chrome Wedges: The technology
The Opus SP+ features a re-engineered three-piece construction that consists of tungsten, a metal injection molded face (MIM), and a cast 8620 carbon steel body.
This multi-material design allows engineers to precisely control weight distribution within the club head.

Compared to the previous Opus range, the SP+ wedges are equipped with a 25% larger Spin Rocket. It helps to enhance the spin rate and increase the control golfers can exhibit over each shot.
Callaway has incorporated some tungsten weighing along the topline. So much so that there is 23 percent more tungsten in the SP+ compared to the Opus Platinum model.
This added tungsten helps to elevate the centre of gravity even further which generates more spin and a flighted launch.
By placing tungsten high in the head, Callaway has engineered more control into the SP+ models.
Elsewhere, Callaway has revealed their most advanced face yet in the OPUS range. Their new Spin Gen 2.0 face which includes a 17-degree groove angle combined with tighter groove pitch spacing.

This increases groove contact to produce a more consistent spin rate across a variety of different lies.
Whether you are playing from the fairway, a bit of rough or some tight turf conditions, Callaway believes this will deliver more bite and a greater stopping power.
The overall profile is one that reflects a more Tour-preferred appearance that appeals to players who value precision and shot-making versatility.
Callaway believe it will provide an all-round clean and confidence-inspiring look at address for golfers.
Who should play the Opus SP+ wedges?
The defining characteristic of the Opus SP+ is its higher CG. By strategically repositioning mass higher in the club head, Callaway engineers have produced a wedge that launches the ball on a more penetrating trajectory while increasing spin consistency.
Golfers who prefer to produce lower flighted strikes into greens are the ones who will benefit from this raised CG.

Having a tour-inspired shape that has major champions of the sport have taken a liking to may sound intriguing, but it is meaningless unless you feel comfortable using it.
