Professional golfers you see dominating the TV screens often rely on TaylorMade’s Spider putters to guide their shots. Our review team at National Club Golfer had the opportunity to test one out last year, and it’s easy to understand why they’re a favorite among the pros.
Some of the most popular putters on the market are now available in a new color, but what else is desirable about the line-up. Let me talk you through the technological benefits of what makes these the go-to putter for so many golfers!
TaylorMade Spider Tour Black Series: Best looking putter yet?: The Technology
TaylorMade have kept the classic mallet look associated with the Spider putters in the black series. Included in the appearance is a black PVD finish which creates the high-quality look that we have become to love with this range of putters.
Additionally, the putter now has a new colour way option with the sole of the club available in orange whilst the rest of the flat stick boasts the black PVD finish.

To help with accuracy on the greens, the putters include a true path alignment. This patented alignment system, placed through the head of the putter, allows for visual clarity of a golfers intended to the hole.

The putters have grown to have a reputation of a soft feel of the face. TaylorMade have achieved this through a TPU Pure Roll insert which has been crafted from a a combination of Surly and aluminium. This insert also allows for better symmetry with the alignment aide to get a fairer roll of the ball.
The TPU Pure Roll insert affects the grooves of the putter too. They are angled at 45° to encourage optimal forward roll of the golf ball as well as promoting a better sound and feel.

Sound, feel and the all-round feedback from the club face has also been enhanced by the Hybar Echo Dampener. This squashes any unwanted vibrations to deliver a more premium sound and feel which enhances their control over each putt.
Additionally, for performance benefits TaylorMade have manufactured a thin wall undercut construction. This enables a more stable structure as it strips back the excess weighting of the club head to offer more forgiveness.
TSS weighting is used to help golfers with all range of putts. The putter subsequently has a more balanced weighting so that all lengths of putts are supplied with the same performance levels. A steel wireframe also enables TaylorMade to place a more controlled CG location in the putter for added forgiveness.
