A joint interview with Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland was always going to produce big laughs

Morikawa and Hovland throw hilarious shade at fellow PGA Tour star

There are currently few more likeable players in the world of golf than rising stars Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland. So with the pair teaming up for the 2022 Zurich Classic, press conferences were always going to be entertaining.

The Ryder Cup stars seem to be revelling in each other’s company on the course already, but their chemistry is also being matched off the course, with the two hilariously poking fun at Sungjae Im’s unmatched appearance stats during a post-round interview.

When asked about Jay Haas making his 799th appearance on the PGA Tour, the deadly ball striking duo wittingly joked that one of their peers might soon be close to running that down.

Hovland: “We’ve got a long ways to go.”

Morikawa: “No, I can’t imagine that.”

Hovland: “That’s cool. He must have seen some stuff. He must have some pretty good stories. That’s a lot of events.”

Morikawa: “Sungjae Im might be close to that, though.”

Hovland: “He’s on pace”

The hilarious comments are a reference to Im’s remarkable appearance stats on the PGA Tour over the last two years. In the 2020-21 season alone, Im played in 35 events racking up 122 rounds, 16 more than second best and fellow countryman KH Lee.

With a further 52 rounds under his belt already this season, Im is well on his way to turning two-time major championship winner Morikawa and Hovland’s banter into a reality in the near future. For now, we’ll see if the young duo can turn their chemistry off the course into a winning formula on the course this weekend.
