Which Ping irons are right for your game: Blueprint
Ping’s blade option is the smallest option in their range with a very small sweet spot. It is designed for low handicap golfers and tour pros and prioritises precision over forgiveness. This makes it easy to shape shots with and have precise control. However it also means they aren’t the most forgiving so you won’t get much help on off centre strikes.
During testing I found these really made me focus in on my strike due to the small shaping and I also really loved the feel. My centre strikes were great and very consistent but I hit these over 10 yards shorter than my current gamers.
Which Ping irons are right for your game: i59
Again this model is designed for the better golfer and is a forged blade style players iron. For players that want to flight it a little bit, this offers more forgiveness and distance than the Blueprint thanks to the slightly larger shaping.

Straight away I could see I comfortably got more distance with this model. I love the blade like shape and styling but that does mean these still don’t offer much forgiveness. I loved the control they gave me in the short irons but think I would need something with more distance and forgiveness further up the bag.
Which Ping irons are right for your game: i525
This is a players distance iron, so it is designed to be more powerful than the smaller offerings. This means you can expect a decent jump in ball speed compared to the i59 model. You can also expect more forgiveness, especially on off centre strikes thanks to extreme weighting. This would fit quite a wide range of handicap levels from single figures into double digits.
This was the model I hit the furthest thanks to the slightly larger club head build. I could also see this launched higher than the i59 and the Blueprint. Even though I had more forgiveness I still felt like I could control these nicely.
Which Ping irons are right for your game: G425
The G425 is Ping’s most forgiving iron. It is a cavity back iron with more perimeter weighting for higher MOI. This gives this iron its high forgiveness levels which makes it very consistent.
This is also the highest launching iron in the range so perfect for someone who needs more height on their shots. They also have more offset which will help square the face for players who lose shots out to the right a lot.

The front to back dispersion on these was ridiculously consistent helping me really dial in my dispersion. For the majority of golfers these are going to be the most consistent model out there.
Which Ping irons are right for your game: NCG verdict
Really picking the right iron is more about ability of strike than your handicap. In a fitting you are looking for the club that you are most consistent with. It’s not always about distance, in fact with irons dispersion is really key. You want something that is going to be repeatable out on the golf course.
What I found when I tested these out is that I actually hit the i525 further than the G425 purely because the shaping suited my eye more and made me more consistent with my strike. It was easy to see the forgiveness levels with the G425 though as my shots were very consistent and I saw very little distance drop off on pure strikes.
Ultimately most club golfers are going to sit in the i525 and G425 bracket as it is hard to turn down the extra distance and forgiveness they put on the table.
