“It does make you wonder why brands who all, every single one of them, believe in fitting even bother selling clubs off the rack.”
That was an observation made by PGA Professional and golf coach Jack Backhouse on the Your Golf Podcast by NCG. He questioned why custom fitting hasn’t become the standard practice for golfers when buying new clubs.
It’s still considered common practice for golfers to buy their clubs straight off the shelf. This is despite the rise in popularity of custom fittings, a process that matches clubs to a player’s swing, ball flight and physical characteristics.
Fittings were something that were once reserved for tour professionals and elite amateurs.
But after recent fitting experiences at TaylorMade’s new Kingdom facility at The Grove, Backhouse and professional golfer Nicola Slater believe that mindset may now be outdated.
