TaylorMade golf balls 2022: The technology
The Tour Response is one of the only non tour golf balls on the market with a urethane cover. Compared to the ionomer alternative, this provides more green sidespin and better feel.
Since that last iteration of Tour Response, TaylorMade have been working on making this cover softer and more flexible. This was achieved via a cross-linking chemical reaction which also improved shear resistance giving the cover greater durability. The result was a material that is 12% softer and 36% more flexible than before.
This is a three-piece golf ball, it has a low 70-compression design, with a soft, hi-spring core. A firmer second layer, featuring a Speedmantle with HFM, contrasts with the soft inner core to give maximum energy transfer at impact for max ball speeds.
The engineers have also added the tour dimple pattern from the TP5 and TP5x to help create maximum carry distance.
The dimple has a unique dual-radius shape to optimise airflow around the golf ball. This ultimately reduces drag, optimises lift and creates longer distance.
“The new dimple pattern paired with a 100 per cent cast urethane cover simply creates a softer version of a Tour level ball made for the everyday golfer that is looking to reap the benefits of our tour proven technology at an affordable price.”

New for this year is the brand new Tour Response Stripe. This model aims to create better alignment through visual technology. This model took inspiration from the ClearPath Alignment technology on the popular Pix design. The aim was to make it the easiest ever TaylorMade golf ball to line up.
The result was a 360° alignment aid that wraps around the golf ball. The 22mm band helps golfers aim their putts better and more consistently. It features a central black alignment line to easily match in with putter sight lines. The multi-coloured design also gives great feedback on the quality of the roll on each putt.
“Tour Response already separated itself from the competition with overall materials and performance, but now with Tour Response Stripe it will also give golfers the feedback needed to boost their performance on the greens. We have seen many professional and recreational golfers take advantage of Clear Path Alignment in our Pix golf balls, and now with the 360° design of Tour Response Stripe, alignment aid gets even easier for the everyday golfer.”

The Soft Response is the softest golf ball in TaylorMade’s line-up. It’s designed to provide feel but ultimately to deliver high ball speeds and distance. For this reason it works the best for moderate swing speed players.
The golf ball has a new core for 2022 which gives a lower 50 compression. For slower swinging golfers a lower compression golf ball will allow them to squash the golf ball more at impact allowing it to spring off the face quicker creating more ball speed and longer carry distances.
“Normally if you go that much softer it is hard for the product to be as long as its prior generation, but we took advantage of the three layers of this product – which is unique at this price – to build up speed. In addition, Soft Response maintains game changing distance at an incredible soft feel to become a true game-changer in this category.”

This product has it’s own unique dimple pattern to decrease drag and optimise lift for longer carry distances in slow-to-average swing speed players.
