NCG’s Golf Glossary: What is Tour Sauce?
Here at NCG we pride ourselves on being the publication for the everyday player, so we’ve taken it upon ourselves to delve into the wonderful world of the golfing lexicon.
Sometimes the most obvious terms have the most interesting story, so you might find yourself an interesting conversation starter…
What is Tour Sauce?
Tour Sauce – or #TourSauce to use it in its most common form – is a term coined by American blogsite No Laying Up.
It is the act of behaving like a tour pro when we are out on the golf course, whether it is reading a green from every angle before hitting a putt, holding your club high in the air as your shot drifts off into the adjoining fairway, or everyone’s favourite, the club twirl.
We are all guilty of Tour Sauce.
How would you use it in a sentence?
“The way he held his pose after hitting that shot was some serious Tour Sauce.”
What the origins of the word ace as a golf term?
In his post explaining Tour Sauce, NLU founder Chris Solomon writes: “Whether consciously or subconsciously, all golfers are influenced by tour pros in some way, shape or form. You know you’ve mimicked a tour player’s pre-shot routine or swing, bought similar attire, or even reacted similarly to a shot, and you probably do it more often than you think.
“My friends and I began doing this years ago when we started thinking we were way better than we were. We began intentionally acting as if we were tour pros playing inside the ropes in front of large galleries. What started as a joke morphed into a full fledged side competition and reached the point where we celebrated a well-executed tour mannerism more than a great shot.
