President Trump was always suspected of being a golf cheat. And that is putting it lightly.
It now looks like we have footage to corroborate the rumours from his recent trip to Scotland and to Turnberry, the former Open Championship venue, which he owns. He is also opening a new golf course in Aberdeenshire.
The footage below doesn’t tell us how Trump got to this point on the golf course. Dressed in all black, Trump is driving a golf buggy in the rough leading up to a bunker, and he is flanked by two caddies.

Does Donald Trump cheat at golf? The evidence is compelling…
Before the US President gets out of the buggy, and before a ball search begins, one of the red-bibbed caddies throws down a ball into the semi-rough. Trump gets out of the buggy with a club in his hand, limbers up to take a shot, and then the clip ends.
We didn’t see the 45th and 47th President of America hit the ball that magically appeared from the caddie’s pocket, but the cynic might say that this is all the material we need to prove that Trump doesn’t play by the rules on the golf course.
After all, legendary golf writer Rick Reilly wrote a whole book about it, named ‘Commander in Cheat’, which was published in 2019. In the book, there are some quite startling claims.
Reilly wrote that Trump kicked the ball of golf broadcaster Mike Tirico into a bunker, when it had been 10 feet from the hole. This was revealed to the author by a caddie in the group.
While it is believed Trump has a low handicap around the 3 mark, many stars of the game have said he probably hovers around 9 or 10 – major winners such as Annika Sorenstam and Ernie Els, who know a thing or two.

Reilly also wrote that he saw Trump give himself a chip-in. As avid golfers, we could swallow the odd one-footer to speed up play, but a chip-in? Masters of the Dark Arts would even shake their heads at these antics.
“He’s a notorious cheat,” Professor David Cay Johnston once said, who has written three books about Trump. “I spoke to someone once who played a round of golf with him, who told me that he had taken six mulligans on a single hole.”

There are also conflicting reports about the number of club championships Trump has won, many at his own golf courses. Reilly also spoke about this in his book too:
“When Trump told Gary Player he’d won 18 championships, Player scoffed. ‘I told him that if anyone beats him, he kicks them out. So, he had to win’.
“Trump International in West Palm Beach, Florida, has a plaque on the wall that lists all the men who’ve won the men’s club championship. Trump appears three times: 1999, 2001, and 2009. But hold on. The course wasn’t even open in 1999.”
So, we have the latest chapter in the annals of Trump’s golf career. It won’t be long until the next, I suspect.
