Golfer’s world record attempt – and it’s all for an incredible cause

David Cederholm will look to smash the record for most golf balls hit in 24 hours in a bid to raise £12,000 for charity

Toptracer's David Cederholm

How many golf balls do you think you could hit in 24 hours?

The world record, since you’re asking, is 10,392. Put your calculator away, we’ve done the maths for you. It’s one shot every 8.3 seconds.

Next up to try and break the record, which has stood since 2002, is David Cederholm.

David, a keen golfer who works in the industry as a sales director for Toptracer, will take on the challenge to raise money for a cause very close to his heart.

David’s friend, Peter Kerr, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma – a rare, aggressive, and incurable form of cancer that begins in the brain – earlier this year.

The devastating diagnosis also came while Peter’s wife, Helen, was pregnant with their daughter, Cece.

Of the money raised by David, half will go directly to Helen and Cece, to provide support when Peter no longer can, while the other half will go to the Lewis Moody Foundation, which supports the incredible work carried out by those researching and treating brain tumours.

David’s challenge will begin on Sunday November 28 on the newly-installed Toptracer range at Woodhall Spa’s National Golf Centre and his plan is to hit 12,000 shots in the 24-hour timeframe – 1,608 more than the current record.

That’s 500 balls an hour – or one ball every 7.2 seconds.

And before you think he can just tap them off the end of the bay, for each shot to count they must travel a minimum of 100 yards within a dispersion of 30 degrees from the target line.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to not only raise money for a cause that’s extremely close to home for me personally, but for so many across the world,” David explained.

“I am aiming to raise a pound for every shot I am planning on hitting, hence my goal of £12,000, and it’s brilliant that I can integrate this challenge with Toptracer.

“Those who have seen me play golf will know how much of a challenge this will be, but I’m confident that the reason for which I am taking it on will give me the drive I need to get over the line.”
