DM: I think Steel did a great job here. He’s given the Jubilee some real character to stand apart from the other Links Trust courses.
Commentary: Play here next time you are in St Andrews.

EB: I love all the Gullane courses.
JB: As good as No 1 for the most part.
Commentary: Don’t think you are accepting second-best by playing here ” it’s the real thing.

JB: Sensationally good in places.
DM: Rugged, big and wild. Finish is quite something.
Commentary: If you like your golf to be on a grand scale and dramatic then you must come to Castletown.
47. MACHRIHANISH DUNES

DM: I love the concept and it’s progressing nicely.
EB: The conditioning is now very good.
Commentary: A challenging site ecologically but Mach Dunes is improving with every year.

JB: A fantastic test of golf.
EB: One of the very best links courses.
Commentary: Last year’s Scottish Open venue proved that it can still hold its own with the big boys.
45. TENBY

DM: Slightly let down by the finish but hugely enjoyable.
EB: Very deep quality. Tenby has at least three world-class holes. I’m a big fan.
Commentary: Charming, hospitable and characterful.

JB: A beautifully laid out heathland course requiring good straight hitting and a steady nerve on the slick greens.
DM: Unassuming but very, very good.
Commentary: Classy and distinctive.
43. MOORTOWN

DM: Improving markedly thanks to mass recent tree removal. One to keep an eye on.
EB: One of Yorkshire’s very best. A class above most.
Commentary: Being restored to a true heathland.

SA: Great routing with some truly memorable holes such as the10th, 11th & 18th and an excellent set of short 4s. The par 3s are used perfectly to ease play through rougher areas.
Commentary: An intelligent layout any new club should study before putting shovel to dirt.
41. HANKLEY COMMON

DM: Outstandingly good and very underrated.
JB: A lovely golf course on a grand scale.
Commentary: A magnificent heathland. Curiously not always mentioned in the same breath as its true peers.
