Phil Mickelson heckled by sombrero-wearing golf fan at US Open
A heckler decided to shout at Phil Mickelson during the first round of the US Open while equipped with a sombrero and a stick-on moustache
Since the inception of LIV Golf last year, some of the players who signed for the rebel league have received some heat on the golf course.
Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka experienced an unwelcome reception in the third round of the PGA Championship, while Ian Poulter being booed at St Andrews last summer comes to mind as well.
On the first day of the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club, it was Phil Mickelson‘s turn to be heckled by one of the spectators on site.
The six-time major champion was lining up a birdie putt on hole 9, his last hole of the day, before a spectator in a sombrero and stick-on moustache shouted some comments at him.
Weird scene on 9 green — Phil Mickelson was standing over his putt when a guy in a sombrero started shouting from the bleachers. Kept going for a solid 30 seconds. Long story short…he’s not a fan.

Golf.com reported the heckling lasted about 30 seconds in which time the spectator made comments about the 53-year-old’s decision to join LIV Golf.
“It’s all you need to work for the rest of your life, Phil. They’re going to pay you $200 million as well,” he was heard shouting.
“What about all the guys on the PGA Tour, Phil? Every single of them looked up to you for their entire careers. This is what you do to them, Phil? This is what you do to them?”
The heckler was eventually escorted from the grandstand surrounded by a number of “perplexed” fans.
Mickelson went on to card a 1-under-par 69 in the first round at LACC in his quest for a first US Open title in his illustrious career.
He has infamously finished in second place on six occasions in the United States national open. It is a tournament to elude his CV and to still leave his prospective career grand slam incomplete.
