World number six Rose described Golf Express as: “A great way to play all the game in half the time.”
The scheme has been backed by 19 clubs across the county and offers 9-hole green fees and a loyalty card to encourage people to play more often. For every five rounds, a sixth is received free.
‘Golf Express is a great way to play the game in half the time’ Twelve of the clubs are also offering golfers the opportunity to play in weekly, after-work roll-ups. These are open to non-members, a handicap is not essential and players will be paired up with other golfers for the competition.
Golf express is part of an England Golf project which is trialling innovative ways of increasing golf club membership and participation in the sport. It recognises that most people’s leisure time is reducing and for many it can be as little as two hours a day.
England Golf chief executive David Joy said: “We hope this new initiative will encourage more people to play more often because it makes golf more attractive and convenient for today’s lifestyles.”

Swiss superman shares inaugural Worcestershire crown
The first Worcestershire Open Pro Am was held at Cleobury Mortimer on Monday, with a Swiss ex-pat sharing the top prize.
Twenty-six teams of four from various clubs around the Midlands took part in the event, with the first team out, Bransford, setting a pace which none of the trailing pack could match. A score of 79 was enough to secure the victory on quick greens and increasing wind conditions.
