Garcia in seventh heaven in Spain
What happened at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters?
Stormy weather at the Real Club Valderrama may have delayed Sergio Garcia’s procession at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters, but it didn’t stop the Spaniard completing his hat-trick at the event.
Garcia carded the low round of the week to take a four-shot lead going into Sunday, after the tournament was cut to 54-holes and confirmed as a Monday finish.
Shane Lowry had Garcia looking over his shoulder when he cut his lead to one, but a double-bogey at 15th ended the Irishman’s chances.
It allowed Garcia to cruise to a six-shot victory at a tournament in which he has only finished outside of the top 10 twice in 14 starts.Riding the Ryder Cup high Sergio Garcia is a seven-time winner on home soil.

Talking Point
Never count out Sergio Garcia. It was a strange week for him, with weather a persistent problem throughout.
In a way the chaos summed up Garcia’s season in which he’s won twice, missed the cut in all four majors, was the subject of widespread criticism when selected for the Ryder Cup – a tournament in which he went on to become the record points scorer.
One year after his heroics at Augusta, a win at the Singapore Open back in January still couldn’t take the sting out of a relatively poor season. But a win on home soil for the 7th time as a professional is as impressive as any achievement in this game.
And to think it might not have happened without that Ryder Cup boost…
