OPEN GOLF: Garcia and Rose head home
Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose were just two of the big names who won’t be needing their clubs this weekend.
Garcia looked like squeezing in when he birdied the 16th but three putts from the fringe on 17 saw him fall back again and he could only par the last. Rose actually enjoyed a great back nine, coming home in three under, but four pars to finish meant he came up a little shy.
Both played with Tiger Woods and both were one shot too many – the cut came at plus three after Joost Luiten made a double bogey at the 17th which brought in plenty of relieved players.
Lee Westwood, Keegan Bradley, John Daly and Tom Watson were among those on 143 but the likes of Charl Schwartzel, David Duval, Martin Kaymer, Davis Love, Paul Casey and Phil Mickelson all missed out. Mickelson had a miserable day, adding a 78 to Thursday’s 73.
It had looked for much of the day like +2 was going to be the number – on that mark came Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh – but a huge sigh of relief came when Luiten faltered towards the end of the day.
Australian Marc Leishman was one of the players on four over, he three-putted the 18th.

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
