Watch Mickelson’s awkward response to LIV’s major debacle
It seems Lefty is still hesitant on whether LIV golfers will be playing in golf’s four biggest tournaments next year
Remember Phil Mickelson’s first press conference as a LIV golfer where he sheepishly explained his reason for joining the breakaway series? No? Then here’s a quick reminder…
“It provides me to play, compete, bring the sport throughout the world, play less, and have a better balance in life on and off the course. I can [now] be more engaged with the people I really care about.”
Ah yes, the classic less golf more time with family line.
Well, as LIV Golf moves ahead to its revamped 2023 season, we now know that Greg Norman’s men will be competing in 14 events starting in February – six more than in their inaugural campaign.
There’s then of course the four majors, meaning Mickelson, who’s averaged 19 events a season since 2009, will be preparing for a grand total of 18 tournaments… or at least thinks.
Just check out this awkward response when discussing his hopes of playing in golf’s four biggest events next year:
“I’ve put on a couple of pounds as the year has gone on and I’ve got to get after it and really get ready,” Mickelson said. “Because next year we’re going to play 14 events (knocks table), plus the majors, and that’s a lot of golf.”
We’ll let you be the judge of Phil Mickelson’s conviction as LIV golfers continue to await their fate over next year’s majors.
Although Lefty can certainly be assured he’ll be teeing up at The Open after the R&A made the first move during the LIV Golf Team Championship.
