Struggling to shape your iron shots? Try these simple tips
It’s amazing – or maybe it isn’t – how simple the pros keep things. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to a few now and every one of them place an emphasis on the fundamentals. At the Adidas Invitational, Connor Syme shared some iron play tips that will help you hit different shot shapes…
Iron play tips: The main points
By staying centred on the way back, Syme feels he is able to rotate hard on the way down and hit his preferred left-to-right shape. However, certain situations require the player to be able to work it both ways.
So how does the Scot play the draw? Well, it’s simple really. He takes his normal set-up and then slightly closes his stance to the target. From here, and with the clubhead still pointing at the target, he is able to swing across the line of his feet and voila, a draw.
Finally, what about the low ball? Hailing from Drumoig on the East coast of Scotland, it’s a shot with which Syme is familiar.
Want to see how he plays it? You’ll have to watch the video…
Got any other simple iron play tips? I want to hear from you. Let me know in the comments or tweet me. I spoke to Connor at the Adidas Invitational where he was joined by fellow professionals Tyrrell Hatton, Matthew Jordan, Lucas Herbert and Jordan Smith.
