‘Completely disrespectful!’ Golfer sparks etiquette debate during college match
Not much gets golf fans more riled up than a rules or etiquette breach – especially when we spot them on TV.
And while January brought us Patrick Reed getting confused in some trees at the Dubai Desert Classic, February has something even more subjective in store.
The latest viral clip that has stirred social media’s collective emotion occurred at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove on Hilton Head Island.
LSU Women’s player Carla Tujedo Mulet had a putt of about 20 feet for birdie on the 18th hole. After she hit her putt, one of her playing partners walked across the line of the ball to get a read. Crucially, though, she walked behind the ball – but in front of Tujedo Mulet.
Confused? Don’t be, just watch the clip here…
The clip has had more than a millions of views on Twitter and sparked a huge debate concerning the behaviour of the player in question.
Five-time DP World Tour winner and former European Ryder Cup player Ross Fisher was one of the more high-profile golfers to get involved. “Etiquette is appalling,” he wrote. “First thing you learn in golf.”
And while many golf fans have argued Fisher’s point that this is bad etiquette, some have attribute the player’s actions as “ready golf”. Here’s a selection of replies…
