Nelly Korda is the new face of Women’s Golf
If you go back a few years, it’s fair to say that few people will have known of female golfer Nelly Korda. Yes, she turned pro in 2016 but didn’t really make her mark, and there was a danger of her becoming one of the also-rans rather than reaching the heights that some within golfing circles expected of her. But fast forward to 2022, and you could now describe her as the new face of women’s golf.
You could say that everything changed for the American in 2021, but she had steadily been making progress from 2018 onwards where the majors were concerned. She finished in the top ten at the US Women’s Open in 2018 before securing a top nine place at 2019’s British Open. Further progress was made in 2020 with a second-place finish at the Chevron Championship before recording her first major success at the Women’s PGA Championship last year.
She may only be twenty-three years old, but Korda is already documenting a career of steady improvement. And while she may have previously been deemed a rank outsider by various sports betting operators, there are a variety of golf betting markets always available that will have her as one of the most fancied players heading into ranking tournaments on the LPGA Tour, which she joined back in 2017.
To add to her success on the majors front, especially in 2021, it was also the year she won five ranking events, picked up a gold medal at the Olympics and climbed her way up to be World No.1. But, while all that’s well and good, it’s what’s to come where Korda and the eyes of the golfing universe have turned. Big things were once expected of the Florida born star, but now they’re being demanded.
After a fantastic 2021, 2022 didn’t get off to the best of starts for Korda as she looked to cement her position as the best female golfer on the planet. But unfortunately, after suffering a blood clot in her arm, surgery was required, which led to a more extended layoff than first expected, and her appearance at the Chevron Championship had to be cancelled. So now, her focus is on getting back to full fitness, to the top of her game and then showing her class on the course by winning more ranking tournaments before showing her prowess in the majors once again.
Her ability is undoubted, but it’s arguably her determination and resolve to not only win but to the best in the world that will carry her far in the women’s game. She recently said, “I want to be World No. 1, and I want to have the Grand Slam, and I want to work toward something that no one’s ever done before.” And, at the time of writing, you wouldn’t back against her achieving all that and more.
