95. SEASCALE
Cumbria, England
Designer(s): W Campbell/G Lowe
Weekday green fee: £35
+ Position: 120
Overall Score = 155
DM: The 16th is one of the hardest and most spectacular par 4s you will ever play
EB: I’m a big fan of Seascale, it has three or four top class holes.
Commentary: Sandwiched between the Irish Sea and the Lake District, Seascale is one of the most remote spots in England. That’s one of the reasons that the Sellafield nuclear power station was built here in the 1940s.
It makes for a jarring contrast in the vistas and it must be acknowledged that the course hugs the perimeter of the facility for several holes.
The course is arguably closer to downland than links for most of the way, when you are well above sea level. The best holes are those nearest to the railway where the terrain is thrillingly irregular and therefore full of character.
94. STONEHAM
Hampshire, England
Designer(s): Willie Park Jr
Weekday green fee: £52
+ Position: 103
Overall Score = 155
SA: For anyone interested in seeing how a course can effectively use its hilly terrain, Stoneham is not be missed.
Commentary: Every bit as good as many of the London heathland courses but receives few of the accolades.

92. IRVINE (BOGSIDE)
Ayreshire, Scotland
Designer(s): James Braid
Weekday green fee: £50
+ Position: 104
