Ping reveal new super-premium Anser rangeJuly, 2012 Equipment
An adjustable driver is the highlight of the super-premium line-up
Ping have become the latest company to offer adjustable woods following the release of their new super-premium Anser range.
It includes a driver (reviewed here), fairway woods, hybrids and irons. The driver and the fairway woods are both adjustable, allowing the user to move the loft up or down half a degree while simultaneously closing or opening the face.
The driver, with a suggested retail price of £355, is available with a choice of four premium shafts – and there is no upcharge for any of them.
All shafts are the real thing – as opposed to a version manufactured especially for Ping.
In terms of appearance, the Anser driver, fairway woods (SRP: £220) and hybrids (SRP: £180) look very similar to the brand’s better-player i20 range, which is to say they have a black, non-glare matt finish and stylish head shapes.
The irons are forged and multi-material – with a tungsten insert – and at £160 per iron are the ultimate in terms of technology and performance.
The Anser range has been designed to sit inbetween i20 and G20
As for positioning, the Anser range has been designed to sit between i20 and G20.
Also introduced is a new Tour Wedge with Gorge Groove Technology and an entirely new rage of ladies’ clubs, called Serene.
A new manufacturing process, conducted in Arizona by Ping themselves, allows the grooves on the wedges (SRP: £113) to be closer to the limits imposed by the game’s rule makers and offer greater and more consistent levels of spin.
The Serene range includes a driver, fairway woods, a combined set of hybrids and irons as well as putters.
Ping say the new clubs will be available and in the shops by the end of August.
