Our return trip from North Wales back to Leeds was in need of a stop, and Delamere Forest Golf Club made the journey much more bearable with a spot of lunch and 18 holes. That, and the fact I had played the course before and knew what a treat it is. Near the small market town of Frodsham in Cheshire, you will find Delamere Forest, and I can honestly say it is Cheshire’s best heathland experience.

Upon arrival at the club you will fail to see any of the course, but march your way round to the front of the clubhouse and the scenery will take you back.

It's not often will you find a more delightful setting, the patio offers spectacular views of the course where you can see plenty of action.

The course itself is one of my personal favourites, originally designed by Herbert Fowler, it offers a great selection of golf holes. Long, challenging par 5’s to short and intricate par 4’s, this course will test those of all abilities.

My favourite hole has to be the 5th. It is perhaps the hardest hole on the front nine measuring 450 yards and with a stroke index of 2, yet I have made birdie on both visits. Boasting a tight well bunkered fairway you won’t find many tougher tee shots on the course.

Once you have negotiated your tee shot it really doesn’t get any easier. If you miss the green slightly right with your approach you are looking at a lost ball, miss left and your ball will be wet.
