The Barcelo Montecastillo Golf Sports Resort is a stunning resort which is situated next door to the famous Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto. The golf course at the Barcelo Montecastillo Golf Sports Resort is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, and was designed by the 18-time major champion. It was opened in 1992 and in true Nicklaus style, everything is laid out in front of the golfer so they can see all the danger that lies in wait.

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is a great lay-out and although it is relatively flat, it does offer up some incredible views of the region, with the 13th tee having views of the neighbouring Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto. Water comes into play on the 7th and 8th holes, with the lake flowing down the right side of both. 10, 16 and 17 are also heavily guarded by the cool, blue lagoons. 

Montecastillo was the venue for Volvo Masters for five consecutive years, from 1997 to 2001. Lee Westwood won the first outing of the event at Montecastillo, with Darren Clarke, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Pierre Fulke and Padraig Harrington having tasted success on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

Away from the golf course, there are a great variety of sporting options for guests at the Barcelo Montecastillo Golf Sports Resort. 

There are three FIFA-certified, international-sized football pitches and a specialist half-pitch training area. The football complex was built under the guidance of both the English Football Association and Manchester United. These were built to welcome top flight football teams during winter breaks and training periods.

Due to the natural surroundings that the resort finds itself in, there are plenty of hiking and walking trails. Water sports are also on offer at Montecastillo, thanks to its proximity to the stunning beaches of Cadiz. Go-karting, horse riding and hang gliding are also available to try during a stay.

From relaxing in the water circuit, to exercising both the body and mind in the fitness centre, the U-Spa at Montecastillo has something for everyone. It has fully-equipped facilities that have recently been refurbished along with the hotel.

There are five treatment rooms at the U-Spa at Montecastillo, with one of those featuring a private whirlpool bathtub. Children between the ages of 4 and 11 are also welcomed into the spa alongside a parent or guardian.

Where is Montecastillo located?
Montecastillo is located in the southern part of Spain, just outside the city of Jerez. Seville is the nearest major city, which is just an hour to the north of the resort.

The Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto, former home to Formula 1 and one of MotoGP’s current venues, is situated a stones’ throw away from Montecastillo, to the north east of the course. 

Jerez de la Frontera sits just 15 minutes away from the resort, but only operates flights to 15 destinations. Montecastillo’s nearest major airport is in Seville, located around an hour to the north of the resort. Malaga-Costa Del Sol Airport, the third busiest airport in Spain, is around 140 miles to the east of Montecastillo, and operates flights to more than 100 destinations.

The current prices for a round at Montecastillo are €72 up to mid-November, and then €64 through to the end of 2023. Following the renovation of the greens on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, these prices could change.
