Ping Scottsdale Craz-E Putter Review: First Impressions

From the outset, the Craz-E makes a strong visual statement. Its iconic shape, unchanged from previous iterations, blends tradition with a modern aesthetic. The black and silver finish is both smart and practical, helping golfers with alignment through a high-contrast look. A distinct white sightline and detailed top-line design also allows golfers to make sure the putter face is square.

NCG Verdict

Ping’s collaboration with SuperStroke is a highlight for me here. The Craz-E features a SuperStroke Tour 2.0 PT grip in blue, which I think strikes the right balance between size and feel. It’s substantial without being overly thick, and the grip quality is top-tier.

Beneath the striking visuals lies the full-face PEBAX face insert, a soft yet consistent technology that ensures consistent performance across face. During my testing I found, whether the strike is out of the heel or the toe, the distance control remained impressive. This was particularly useful for longer putts where off-centre hits are more common.

Where the Scottsdale Craz-E truly excels is forgiveness. With its high MOI, moment of inertia, design, I found it remains stable through impact, preserving line and pace even on mishits. For players interested in different configurations, Ping also offers the Craz-E CB, a mid-length version of the putter featuring a longer grip and more counterbalancing. This version caters to those looking for more stability or experimenting with different putting styles.

Performance-wise, the Craz-E impressed me with its ease of alignment and consistent roll. It handled both short and long putts with ease. Although I generally favour blade-style putters, the Craz-E still delivered a strong showing. Its tech-forward design and forgiving nature make it especially attractive to players who appreciate the advantages of mallet-style heads.
