An Interview With Charlotte Wild

Lady Golfer: How did you discover golf and when did you first break par?
Charlotte Wild: I found golf after visiting the driving range with my dad. I used to watch him and always wanted to have a go. I first broke par four years after picking up a club.

LG: Who have been the biggest influence(s) on your career thus far and why?
CW: My dad, my coach Andrew Murray and family friend Tony Jacklin have all been influential to my career. I feel very lucky to be able to draw on all their experiences.

LG: What is the highlight of your career to date?
CW: Getting to the final of the English Girls Championship this year was a real achievement - even though I didn’t win. It gave me a taste of how exciting big events are. Shooting 69 in the final round of the Irish Strokeplay to finish third was also a high point, which bred a lot of confidence.

LG: You spent the summer in the USA working on your game. You must have improved as a result?
CW: Being over there playing and practising full-time has improved my game massively since I left after my GCSEs to concentrate on golf.

LG: What are your plans for the 2009 season and the next few years?
CW: My main focus will be on improving all aspects of my game and to get my hands on one of the Major championships!

LG: What do you feel you must do/improve on to get yourself on the plane to Essex Country Club for the 2010 Curtis Cup?
CW: To achieve this goal, I believe I need to continue my short game and fitness training. I don’t think winning a Major would set me back either!

LG: Finally, who would play in your dream fourball?
CW: My dream group would include Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam and my dad.
