REVIEW: Leonard wins St Jude

THERE are streaky players and there are streaky players. And then there is Justin Leonard. The Texan seems to spend half of his time unable to make a cut and the rest of it proving he is a match for the very best.

So watch out for him in this week's US Open after he continued his rich vein of form in 2008 by winning the St Jude Championship in Memphis.

With a second at the Bob Hope, fifth at the Buick, fourth at the WGC Matchplay and top-20 at the Masters already under his belt, Leonard now looks sure to make his third Ryder Cup appearance at Valhalla. The 35-year-old, who now has 12 PGA Tour wins to his name, also featured at Valderrama in 1997 and Brookline two years later.

Leonard defeated Robert Allenby previously in possession of an unblemished play-off record and Masters champion Trevor Immelman to come out on top of a strong field. Also in the top 10 and seemingly perfectly tuned-up for Torrey Pines were the likes of Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Boo Weekley and Scott Verplank.

All of the above were available for selection in Fantasy Golf so it was a big week for the leaders with lots of points available for those who chose wisely.

But with TREBLE points on offer at the US Open, which begins on Thursday, there is plenty of thinking to be done before we close the transfer window at midday.
