Play and stay
Set
in 450 acres of park and woodland, it offers peaceful surroundings, a
friendly atmosphere and a course with magnificent views of
Northumberland.
A fine example of Georgian architecture Linden
Hall also boasts a variety of facilities while the course presents a
fair challenge for golfers of all standards. The 4th is a
picture-postcard par three that requires a tee shot over water while
the 18th is a fantastic finishing hole.
Matfen Hall
THIS
is a magnificent country-house hotel set in beautiful countryside close
to Hadrian's Wall. A regular venue for pro and county events, Matfen's
glorious Northumberland parkland course is rated as one of the north
east's finest.
This classic design incorporates challenging
water features and unique obstacles, such as the dry stone 'ha ha'
wall. The picturesque and fast-flowing River Pont comes into play on
several holes, including the 14th, one of many strong par fours.
Matfen's
signature hole is the long par-three 17th, with its narrow green sited
teasingly just over the river. A high-quality par-three course is ideal
for the less experienced player.
Garstang Hotel and Golf Club
Situated
on the banks of the Rivers Wyre and Calder, the wonderful 18-hole
course was designed by Richard Bradbee, who benefitted from its
location in picturesque Lancashire countryside. Gentle two-shotters
characterise the front nine but long par fours dominate the inward half.
The
family-owned location has 32 bedrooms, all of which overlook the course
and driving range, and a great restaurant, which serves locally sourced
and freshly prepared cuisine.
Rudding Park
THE
championship-standard course is undoubtedly one of the finest in the
north of England. Designed by Martin Hawtree, the 18-hole, par-72 track
runs through the heart of the resort's 19th-Century picturesque
Yorkshire parkland.
And from next month, the Harrogate venue
will also feature a spectacular six-hole short course (pictured here),
perfect for beginners and those wishing to brush up on their short
game. A practice chipping area, bunker and green accompany the North
Yorkshire resor's 110-yard academy short hole. Away from golf, this
award-winning venue is home to extensive facilities, a contemporary
restaurant and outstanding holiday homes, including lodges.
Shrigley Hall
OVERLOOKING
the edge of the Peak District, Shrigley is home to one of the most
prestigious hotels in the Cheshire area. Situated just 15 miles south
of Manchester, Shrigley's 262 acres of spectacular countryside and
magnificent 18-hole course should keep you busy for the duration of
your break.
Designed by Donald Steel, Shrigley's 18-hole
championship course offers a challenging test. It measures 6,281 yards
off the back tees, has a par of 72 and boasts glorious views.
Finally,
Shrigley's Fairways Clubhouse, which is located on an elevated position
overlooking the 18th green, offers excellent facilities.
Forest Pines
Nestled
in the Lincolnshire countryside, Forest Pines bathes you in sumptuous
relaxation the moment you arrive. A warm welcome and you're whisked off
to one of 188 spacious and elegant en-suite rooms. The luxuries are all
here - satellite TV, WiFi technology, fresh tea and coffee, as well as
24-hour room service.
The resort's stunning 27-hole golf course
makes this venue one of the top hotels in Lincolnshire. Challenging
fairways and greens seamlessly unroll through a natural canvas of
ancient woods and wild heathland. As you might guess from the name,
there are lots and lots of mature trees so accuracy is a prerequisite
to good scoring.
Even if you don't play, there is still much to
discover off the course, making Forest Pines an ideal venue for a short
break for all the family.
Aldwark Manor
Incorporating
an invigorating mix of old and new styles, Aldwark Manor is a terrific
venue located close to Harrogate and York. Set in 100 acres of parkland
on the River Ure, it is home to a superb golf course, modern leisure
centre and relaxing spa. With a 19th-century manor house as its
centrepiece, Aldwark's 18-hole course sits either side of the river and
includes a feature hole and an array of water hazards. The rare and
mature trees create a wonderful feeling of tranquility.
Aldwark's
splendid hotel has 55 bedrooms, split between traditional in the manor
house and contemporary in the new wing. The two rosette restaurants
offer fine cuisine.
