Located in Staffordshire, Beau Desert is another of the courses in the Herbert Fowler portfolio, along with the likes of Saunton, Walton Heath and The Berkshire, to name a few.

A Brief History of Beau Desert
The club was founded in 1911, shortly before the First World War, and Herbert Fowler was the man brought in to design the golf course at Beau Desert.
Nine holes were originally designed and constructed, with that quickly becoming 18 prior to the start of the War in 1914. The Hednesford and District Golf Club was renamed the Beau Desert Golf Club in 1921.
To this day, golfers playing the course are still able to see the dips in the course where soil and gravel were taken for the original construction of some of the plateaued greens. These spots include to the left side of both the 8th and 9th holes.
Two cottages on the property were demolished in the 1960s, making way for a pair of detached houses - Suker Lodge 1 and 2 - which have been occupied by members of staff in the past.

Designed by the great Herbert Fowler, Beau Desert is 6,458 yards from the tips. Its narrow design requires accuracy from the tee, as you play through incredible heathland views.
The course opens up with a gentle par-4 measuring just north of 300 yards, but the 2nd comes in at 450, and requires two very good shots to come away with a par. A downhill mid-range par-3 follows before another short par-4. At only 350 yards, the 4th could be seen as another birdie opportunity but, once again, the narrowness of the fairway comes into play when you decide which club to take off the tee.
The 5th features a long uphill approach to a reverse MacKenzie green, before the 6th features a fairway which, at its widest, is only 25 yards. The green also slopes severely from back to front. The 7th is a par-3 with bunkers and trees surrounding the green on three sides before a long, narrow, and arrow-straight par-4. The front side at Beau Desert ends with a driveable par-4 at just 260 yards.
The back nine starts with a 140-yard par-3 where club selection becomes crucial because of the huge bunker in front of the green. Four par-4s follow - each of them measuring more than 400 yards. The 12th features a rare double dogleg, first to the right and then to the left at the green.
The first par-5 at Beau Desert does not appear on the scorecard until the 15th. At 547 yards, it is lengthy, but it features the widest fairway on the property and the possibility of reaching in two for longer hitters. Don’t be short, long or wide, though, on 16 - the last par-3 on the course. The 17th is the toughest par four on the course at more than 450 yards, before 18 provides one final birdie opportunity. Go for it in two or lay up short of the gorse and try an get up and down for your birdie four?

Hednesford Station is just over a mile from Beau Desert, with trains operating between Rugeley Trent Valley and Birmingham New Street on a regular basis. Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport are the two nearest to Beau Desert. Both are located within an hour from the golf course.
