This breathtaking nine-hole course is found in Scarista on the west coast of the island of Harris.

It was initially established in 1930 and developed into the course that you enjoy today by 1935, stretching to 4,900 yards with a par of 68 and SSS of 65 for two laps.

Isle of Harris' links is flanked on one side by the Sound of Taransay, which leads into the Atlantic Ocean; down its west side are the picture-perfect white sands that look like they are in the Seychelles or the Caribbean but are actually typical of this part of the Hebrides.

It's had some famous visitors, including Ronan Rafferty and Sir Nick Faldo, with the latter describing it as "one of the most beautiful settings for golf".

The spectacular location is predictably a haven for birdlife and wildlife while the holes themselves do not disappoint; expect precisely the combination of quirk, fun and unique features that you drove all that way for.

It can be blustery of course, but even without a breeze Isle of Harris has enough about it to give you a game. Mostly though, you are lapping up the views and constantly diving for your phone camera to find the perfect screensaver shot.
