Belvoir Park has plenty going for it, thanks to its location and great transport links, along with its tournament-hosting history. 

 

The course opened in 1929, and was designed by legendary golf course architect Harry Colt. Two decades later, the club hosted the Irish Open for the first time, and would host the tournament again in 1953. 

 

Located just ten minutes from the city centre of Belfast, and accessible by both train and air, Belvoir Park has a lot to offer its guests and members.

Belvoir Park has almost a century of history, dating back to its origins in 1926, and its formal opening three years later. 

 

The club purchased land from Lord Deramore, who also became the club’s first President. The great Harry Colt was the man to design the course. 

 

Belvoir Park has hosted the Irish Open in its long and storied history, hosting the tournament on two occasions – 1949 and 1953. The venue has also been the home of the Irish PGA Championship and the Irish Amateur Close Championship. 

The championship course at Belvoir Park has undergone slight changes throughout its history, and the course now plays at 6,800 yards from the championship blue tees. It winds its way through Belvoir Park Forest, with tree-lined fairways just one of the issues golfers might face during a round at the Belfast venue. The Par 70 course offers a challenge for golfers of all abilities. 

 

The course begins with a gentle and short par 4, one that you might be tempted to take on if you’re feeling confident. At just under 300 yards, it is reachable for some. For most, a long iron or hybrid to a good spot on the fairway still leaves a great chance for birdie at the opening hole. Two long par 4s follows, with the 3rd being a testing dog-leg left. Your drive needs to find the right half of the fairway to be able to even see the green, as the hole keeps bending around the trees. 

 

The 4th is the opening par 3 on the property and features four greenside bunkers. It pushes 200 yards from the tips, making it a difficult short hole. At just 540 yards, the 5th can be seen as a birdie-able par 5. Miss the two fairway bunkers on the right and you might have a chance of going for the green in two. 6 and 7 are lengthy par 4s and both with trees lining each side. At just 150 yards, the 8th is the shortest hole at Belvoir Park, but with a long and narrow green, and four bunkers awaiting anything awry, it is not necessarily easy. The front nine finishes with a long par 4, pushing up to 500 yards off the tips. For those playing the whites or yellows, this does play as a par 5, making the course a Par 71.  

 

The opening hole on the back nine features the first water hazard that you see at Belvoir Park. It is only a narrow stream which splits the fairway in two, and shouldn’t cause that much of a problem, as long as you find the fairway! 11 is a par 3 of 190 yards in length, featuring three bunkers short of the green. 12 and 13 are both dog-leg rights with a fairway that is split into two sections. The 12th is the hardest hole on the property. 14 and 16 are the last two par 3s, with the latter of those being more than 200 yards from the tips. 

 

The closing stretch at Belvoir Park is a tricky one, with the 15th being the narrowest hole on the course. If you find the fairway, then you might be able to reach the green in two on the last par 5 on offer. 17 winds round to the left, very much like the 3rd hole, with a drive needing to be in the right half of the fairway to see the green. The closing hole at Belvoir Park turns the other way, from left to right and features five bunkers, three of which are greenside. It is a great finishing hole.  

Where is Belvoir Park located?  
Belvoir Park is one of several venues on the NCG Top 100s: Ireland list to be located north of the border in Northern Ireland. The club is just three miles from the city centre of Belfast, and sits just off the A55, the ring road around the Northern Irish capital city. Belvoir Park Forest surrounds the course.  

 

Thanks to its close proximity to the city centre, there are also decent rail and air transportation links. Belfast Station is in the centre of the capital, and is also just three miles from the club, while Belfast City Airport is only seven miles to the northeast. Belfast International – which is around 20 miles northwest of Belvoir Park – offers a wider range of flights and destinations, perfect for international visitors.  

What golf facilities does Belvoir Park offer?  
Along with the championship golf course, Belvoir Park also has a driving range which sits at the northern side of the property, accessible by car as you turn into the club off the main road. There is also a short game area at the facility, along with a putting green by the 1st tee.

The price of a green fee at Belvoir Park changes throughout the year, depending on the season. It is also different depending on whether it is a weekday or weekend.
