Longniddry

There is something about wandering down the fairways at Royal Musselburgh that gives the impression of taking a step back in time. As the sixth-oldest club in the world, the venue oozes history and class, providing a memorable golfing experience for all those who visit. Founded in 1774, the club originally played over the famous nine-hole links course at Levenhall, Musselburgh. They moved to the current site in 1926 and five-time Open champion James Braid created a parkland course that finishes in real style, beginning with the short 14th, whose name, The Gully Hole, speaks for itself.

Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh, the course offers stunning views of the city skyline and Arthur's Seat - in contrast to many of the surrounding East Lothian courses. The immaculately kept course features tight fairways which are well guarded by trees. Precision driving and accurate approaches are essential in carding a respectable score.
An immaculately kept course designed to test all abilities

This is particularly true at the signature 15th, where the tee is huddled tight behind trees to the left and only an accurate drive will find the rolling fairway. From there a long iron is played over an uphill approach to a tilting green.

Additionally, as one of the oldest clubs in the world, the magnificent clubhouse boasts a superb collection of golfing memorabilia. For anyone who appreciates the history of the game, a visit to Royal Musselburgh is a pilgrimage which simply must be made.
