Liberton is a rolling parkland course which opened in the summer of 1920 in the south east of Edinburgh.
The fairways are tight and the greens are relatively small but well guarded, so they can offer an enjoyable and testing round of golf for all levels of golfer.
It started life as a nine-hole course and lies five miles south east of Scotland's capital city. In its present form, the course has 18 holes covering 82 acres of undulating parkland.
A recent large-scale tree planting project has generated significant benefits for the course. Several holes were lengthened or reshaped as well.
At the same time, new fairway bunkers added to the difficulty. As the young trees mature, the course changes in nature year on year.
Liberton stretches to 5,344 yards, a low figure by modern standards but utterly commonplace when traditional courses such as this one were created in the early 1900s.
This short length is tempered by two things: firstly, the absence of any par 5s where 'cheap' birdie putts are on offer for longer hitters; and secondly, five par 3s – only one of which is over 200 yards.
So, there are plenty of exacting two-shotters – not least the first, named Little France, which is a serious challenge at 431 yards.
