Portmarnock Hotel | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

The Portmarnock Resort, not to be confused with the neighbouring Portmarnock, is a glorious venue just 30 minutes from the Irish capital of Dublin. The Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links’ offers guests a sublime 18-hole golf course through the dunes, along with a wonderful spa and wellness facility, and a hotel with views of the Irish Sea.
Over the last few years, the Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links has seen significant changes, with the golf course going through renovations and improvements. The hotel and facilities have also been upgraded to make the resort a must-visit.
Mitch Gaglardi, managing director of Sandman Hotel Group UK & Ireland, said: “We have invested heavily in both Portmarnock Resort and Jameson Golf Links in recent years, to create an unrivalled stay-and-play golf experience along this great stretch of Dublin coastline.”
Now, the Jameson Golf Links provides the golfing landscape at the Portmarnock Resort, and it is a stunning golf course. Bernhard Langer’s original design had hosted the Ladies’ Irish Open in both 2008 and 2009. In 2023, the rebranded Jameson Golf Links re-opened, following Jeff Lynch’s work to the course, and he has been applauded for the work that he has done with the layout.
Away from the golf course, the Portmarnock Resort Hotel offers 130 rooms and suites for its guests to stay in, while The SPA Portmarnock is the perfect place for guests to relax and unwind during their time at the resort. There is also an impressive range of eateries at the resort, with different cuisines on offer.

Jameson Golf Links

After its recent renovations and improvements, the Jameson Golf Links at the Portmarnock Resort has become somewhat of a masterpiece. The revamped layout only opened in October 2023, with Jeff Lynch taking on Bernhard Langer’s original design and evolving it into something sublime. The original design had played host to the Ladies’ Irish Open in 2008 and 2009, with Suzann Pettersen and Diana Luna being victorious at the Portmarnock Resort.
From the more forgiving front nine, which gently eases players into the game, to the demanding back nine, where precision and strategy become paramount, Jameson Golf Links provides an experience that is as accessible to beginners as it is rewarding for seasoned players.
The back nine has seen significant changes. Both the 12th and 14th holes – previously par 4s – have been redesigned as par 5s, with the raised green area on the former providing incredible views of the Velvet Strand, Howth Head, Lambay and Ireland’s Eye. In between those new par fives, the once par-five 13th is now a particularly challenging par four, becoming the course’s stroke index one in the process. The 15th has been shortened from a par 4 to a par 3, and plans are in place to change the 17th from a par three to a par four in early 2024 to provide another birdie opportunity over the closing holes.
The Irish Sea comes into play on occasions as well. Both the 9th and 15th – a pair of par 3s – play back towards the water, while the closing hole on the Jameson Golf Links runs parallel to the coastline, with the Irish Sea running down the right side of the hole.
