Mar Hall Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Earl of Mar Course

Mar Hall’s golf course is an 18-hole layout – the Earl of Mar Championship Course. Former Ryder Cup player and now world-renowned golf course architect Dave Thomas was the man to design the Earl of Mar Course, which was opened in 2010 and runs along the banks of the River Clyde at times.

From the back tees, the Par 70 track is just over 6,500 yards, so it is not the longest course in the world. Thomas' design allows golfers to also play just nine holes, with both the front and back nine playing in loops which wind their way back to the clubhouse.

The course opens with a narrow par 5, so you had better be warmed up with the driver. The 1st is the longest hole on the property, and the only hole that hits 500 yards. The 4th hole tees off alongside Erskine Beach on the Clyde, while the 7th hole is a tricky par 4, which has a huge tree and bunker in the middle of the fairway.

The 11th is the hardest hole on the course, playing as a par 4 that measures more than 440 yards from the tips. 15 is the final par 5 and plays with the banks of the Clyde down the left side, before inland water comes into play on the last three holes. 16 makes its way around the lake as a dog-leg left, while the par 3 17th has the lake to the back left of the green. The water is then by the 18th tee but should not cause any issues as golfers aim for home.
