Kilmacolm is a moorland course lined by fir trees, bracken, heather and whins. The layout was originally the work of Willie Campbell in 1891.
James Braid refined parts of the course in 1924. The quality of the course has been endorsed by some of the game's greats – from the legendary Walter Hagen to the former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher.
Kilmacolm lies on high ground between the south-western outskirts of Glasgow and the Ayrshire coast.
Its calling cards are crisp, tight fairways and beautifully framed short par-4s.
In 1924, Braid needed less than 6,000 yards to remodel a course that more or less runs uphill and away from the town and back again.
