Breadsall Priory, like several other venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, is home to two 18-hole golf courses. The Priory and Moorland Courses at the resort offer different challenges, thanks to different designers. David Cox was the man behind the Priory Course, while world-renowned golf course architect Donald Steel constructed the Moorland Course.  

 

Priory Course 

The Priory Course is the championship offering at Breadsall Priory. David Cox was the man to design the Priory, which is a Par 70 layout running just over 6,000 yards. There are four par 3s and two par 5s on the Priory layout at Breadsall, while two of the par 4s are less than 300 yards. 

 

After a gentle start to the round, the 4th is the longest hole on the property. Even then, it is only 515 yards, which is not too long for a par 5. Just two holes later, you come to the shortest par 3 on the course. The 6th is only 125 yards from the back tees but has three greenside bunkers and a stone wall on the left for any errant pulls.  

 

The 9th and 10th are the two short par 4s, both of which could be seen as drivable for the longer hitters. Both are dog-legs right, and those aiming for the green with their tee shot will have to hit over trees to reach the green. The next three holes are all short par 4s as well, with the longest coming at 11 at just 360 yards. The 15th is the toughest hole on the course, a long par 4 at 460 yards, and with water behind the green for anything that runs through the back. 

 

The signature hole on the Priory Course is the par 3 17th. It is 185 yards from the tips but plays shorter as it is played from an elevated tee box. Two greenside bunkers will take any errant shots, while the ditch that runs along the back of the green will punish anything that goes long. The closing hole on the Priory is a 460-yard par 5 and provides one final birdie opportunity. Longer hitters could easily reach in two. An eagle to finish, perhaps? 

 

Moorland Course 

World-renowned architect Donald Steel designed the Moorland Course. Like the Priory, it is a Par 70 and is only just over 6,000 yards. The Moorland Course sits on land to the north of the resort, as an extension to the property. It is another parkland layout from Steel, another to add to his growing list of courses.  

 

The course opens with a par 3, one of four on the layout. The Moorland Course also features a pair of par 5s, which come at the 9th and 16th. The former of those is the longest hole on the course, however, at just 475 yards, it remains a strong birdie chance. The 3rd and 7th are par 4s under 300 yards and therefore drivable for the longer hitters, while the 7th green is alongside the 10th green. It is not a double green, but finding the wrong putting surface is easily done on these two holes.  

 

The back nine is the longer of the two sides on the Moorland Course. 12, 13 and 15 are all par 4s that measure more than 400 yards, with the 12th being the signature hole on the course. 16 is the final par 5 on the course and offers an eagle chance for the big hitters, before the short 17th. The closing hole on the Moorland Course is a dogleg left par 4 that bends around the side of the other leisure facilities, including a pair of tennis courts.

The Traditional Priory Rooms date back to the original building, back in 1260, and provide a sublime experience for those history buffs. The top of the range when it comes to accommodation at Breadsall Priory at the One-Bedroom Suites, which feature a king-sized bed and a separate living area with bay windows to enjoy the scenery.  

As with all Delta Hotels by Marriott, Breadsall Priory has its own Leisure Club and Spa. The leisure club features a fully equipped gym, which has cardio and weight machines, exercise bikes and free weights among many other services. There is also a range of fitness classes provided by personal trainers and yoga instructors. 

 

A swimming pool, sauna, and steam room are all part of the Leisure Club. Guests of the Priory Spa also have access to these facilities, with a range of massages and treatments on offer for those guests, from facial treatments, scalp and hair treatments, waxing, body massages and much more.  

Where is Breadsall Priory?  
Breadsall Priory is in the East Midlands, situated between the villages of Breadsall and Morley. The resort is just outside Derby, which is only a few miles south of Breadsall Priory. 

What is the nearest airport and station to Breadsall Priory?  
East Midlands Airport is on the south side of Derby but remains less than half an hour from Breadsall Priory. The airport is a hub for Jet2.com, Ryanair and TUI Airways, and serviced more than 3 million passengers in the year 2022. 

 

Both Derby and Duffield Stations are around five miles from Breadsall Priory, with trains into Derby coming for more locations. Trains from Cardiff, Edinburgh, London St Pancras, Birmingham and more all stop at Derby each day.

There is a floodlit driving range which has both indoor and outdoor bays, along with a short game area that has a couple of practice bunkers. There is also a putting green as part of the short game facilities.

There is a range of tuition and coaching options available for both guests and members of Breadsall Priory. Individual and group coaching are available, along with several sessions for juniors.
