Carus has proven extremely popular with local people from the picturesque market town of Kendal, as well as visitors to the area. The Club currently has over 500 members and is growing year on year. Golfer or non-golfer, Carus has something for everyone.
Fred Downham built a 9 hole golf course in 1993 and named it Carus Green. This was after Carus Green Farm where Fred and his wife, Eileen lived and still do to this day. The course was converted to 18 holes in 2001 whilst the new clubhouse and pro club shop opened in 2011 and 2016 respectively.
NCG says…
Easily accessible with stunning views, state-of-the-art practice facilities, award-winning clubhouse, Grill Restaurant, lounge bar and luxury holiday accommodation, Carus has quickly become the Lake District’s premier golf and leisure destination.
Situated to the north of the historic market town of Kendal, the 18-hole parkland course has views over the surrounding countryside and the Lake District fells. Interesting natural topography and three rivers that meander through the course add interest and variety to every hole.
In recent times the golf course has been substantially remodelled with a number of challenging two-tier greens and a host of new water features and improved tees.
At more than 6,000 yards, par 71, from the white tees, Carus Green presents a stiff but fair test whilst offering mostly flat, easy walking on the river plains.
