If ball position is your problem here's the answer

The right attack

This illustrates the three main ball positions required to hit shots with different clubs. The middle-of-the-stance position should be used for your short irons in order to promote a downward blow on the ball. Position the ball on the base of your swing arc (three inches inside the left heel for right-handers) when using mid irons, long irons, hybrids and fairway woods. And for the driver, aim to have the ball on the heel of your left foot. This promotes an ascending blow, which is key for hitting consistent drives.
