Get off to a smooth start

Make the first move the right one

Tempo and connection

The first movement in the swing is key for two reasons: it dictates the tempo; and it starts everything working together, keeping things connected. Take hold of a square clubface by the hosel and make sure that the shaft is in contact with your left hip.

Stay in touch

As your hands move inside and away from the ball it should feel like a one-piece move and the shaft should stay in contact with your hip. If you are prone to a wristy or flicky early takeaway then the shaft will leave the hip and you are already out of sequence.
